Cartier Studios is a family art + design shop. We create and sell artwork and beautiful handmade products that are full of personality and tell a meaningful story. Cartier Studios offers small batch pottery, leather goods, paintings, photography, prints, sculptural objects, and graphic design services. Each piece is one of a kind, made with thoughtful intention by us. 

We want to help you curate your own home collections with beautiful, functional, handmade objects that are locally made, sustainable, and contribute to the growing art and design community in Calgary. Our customers are, like us, those people who appreciate the value of slow design, quality over quantity, and are moving away from the excess and wastefulness of mass production. We share a desire to connect with like-minded individuals who see value in the presence of art in our everyday lives. Every item in our shop is designed to create meaningful moments for anyone looking for beautiful pieces to stock their own homes, or those looking for a special gift idea.  

Cartier Studios is run by Colette and Melisent Cartier, sisters based out of Calgary, Alberta. Colette earned a design degree from Emily Carr University of Art + Design; she divides her time between making small batch pottery and freelance graphic design services. Colette is insatiably curious, hands on, process driven, and is constantly striving to develop her skills and uncover new avenues for creation. Melisent has an undergraduate degree in Architecture from McGill University, and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. She finds joy in expressing herself through writing, photography, and watercolour painting. Melisent is always finding ways to bring her art forms together into meaningful compositions.  

Colette and Melisent are supported in this venture by their youngest sister, Simone, and their parents, Ken and Leslie, who all contribute their creative work to the Cartier Studios shop. Ken and Leslie encouraged creativity in their kids from a young age, and it became an integral part of their lives. Cartier Studios originated informally as a Christmas tradition within the family; each individual would draw names for a gift exchange, and the single parameter was that the gift must be handmade. The result was a series of highly personalized, incredibly unique ideas, and it was so much fun to see what everyone came up with. Extended family and friends also began to get excited to hear about what everyone made that year, asking us why we didn’t sell our creations. And that got us to thinking, why not?! It feels like Cartier Studios was a lifetime in the making, and we finally jumped into it full time.

Cartier Studios represents our collective experiences and moments, our constant desire to slow down, and our love for the process of making and creating. We believe in quality goods and supporting local businesses in our own community. We share a desire to connect with like-minded individuals who see value in the presence of art in our everyday lives. This is why we created an accessible space where you can discover and enjoy local art, whether it is online, or at a live pop-up shop.

Currently our shop is online, but we love to connect with our community in person at local markets and events in Calgary.
